McNair Conferences and Events

Conferences and events open to all McNair Scholars. Students will only need to tell the Cleveland State McNair Program that they are interested in attending and submit the Cleveland State McNair Office travel forms at least thirty days in advance of the conference date (available ). The McNair Program staff will thereafter help to facilitate preparations and will send instructions as to how to prepare to attend. 

 
The University of California, Los Angeles: National McNair Conference and Graduate School Fair

Description: A conference targeting (but not limited to) McNair Scholars involved in high-quality research, featuring opportunities for students to present and share research findings, network, and receive information and mentorship regarding graduate studies.

University of Maryland: National Conference for McNair Scholars and Undergraduate Research

University of New Mexico: McNair Scholars Research Conference

Description: A conference offering McNair Scholars the opportunity to network, present research, view presentations from McNair alumni, and participate in career services and graduate school fair while visiting a unique part of the country with a rich cultural and historical background.

Other Conferences and Events

Conferences and events not affiliated with the McNair Program. Scholars may have to meet specific criteria and/or submit materials in order to attend and will usually have to initiate the process of preparing for their attendance. The Cleveland State McNair Program will be able to assist with regard to fees and transportation costs in most cases, although students must, again, submit the Cleveland State McNair Office travel forms at least thirty days in advance of the conference date (available ).

 

Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)

Description: A large-scale professional conference for STEM students from groups underrepresented in higher education, students who are military veterans, and students with disabilities.

Indiana University - Bloomington: Getting You Into Indiana University (GU2IU)

Location: Bloomington, IL
Description: A multi-day recruitment program for students, especially from groups underrepresented in higher education, who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or M.F.A program. Indiana University pays all the costs of the visit, including lodging, transportation, meals, and travel to and from the airport.

Ohio State University: Graduate Engineering Open House

Description: An event providing information about Ohio State's Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, Math, and Physics graduate programs and application process. Those belonging to groups underrepresented in STEM are strongly encouraged to apply.

Pennsylvania State University: STEM State Open House

Rice University: Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium (GCURS)

Description: A symposium designed to provide a forum for undergraduate researchers to present their findings, while fostering intercollegiate interactions between student researchers and faculty.

University of Madison-Wisconsin: Bioscience Initiative for Recruiting and Networking

Nebraska Summer Research Program

Dates: June 3 - August 7, 2025
Description: This intensive summer research experience provides mentoring and research experiences while allowing scholars to preview graduate school life. Students are selected to work closely with a specific faculty mentor and their team of researchers throughout the summer on a project condensed to fit the 10-week timeframe.

MICHR Translational Science Immersion (TSI) Program

Dates: May 27 - August 1, 2025
Description: A paid intensive and introductory level summer research experience for graduating seniors and graduate students enrolled in health professional degree or master's degree programs from across the country. This is a great opportunity for students to learn the fundamentals of research through individual and team-based learning experiences.

Purdue Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

Dates: May 25 - August 8, 2025
Description: The program offers a 11-week immersive summer research experience, where selected students work either on Purdue's West Lafayette or Indianapolis campuses with faculty and graduate student mentors. Students will get to work with cutting-edge research tools in science, engineering, and technology.

University of Michigan UM-SMART Summer Undergraduate Research Program

Dates: May 27 - August 3, 2025
Description: Designed for undergraduate students who have an interest in obtaining a combined MD/PhD degree leading to a career in academic medicine as a physician-scientist performing basic research relevant to human health and disease. As a UM-SMART summer research fellow, students work full-time in a basic research laboratory under the mentorship of a research faculty member.

Summer Education Research Program (SERP)
